Whenever someone speaks/writes/communicates in some way there is an agenda involved. The main focus of all our communications in this class (in an idealistic fashion) was to always have something constructive to add to and further a dialogue - or rather a multilogue. Furthermore, the idea of impression management had come into play to follow along the guidelines of nexting and being nexted. My presentation, and the subsequent comments/replies, are no different and have the same motives as all other previous contributions throughout this course (or is it discourse?).

“I felt the same way because I started off strong and then fell off a bit.” - <a href="http://johnniedrama.wordpress.com/2008/08/17/who-really-defines-us-manifestations-of-tensionality/#comment-23" rel="nofollow">Outer Body Boi</a>
He tries to relate himself to Johnnie Drama since JD has just painted a clear picture of his life throughout this course. OBB is trying to shape others’ perception of him by relating his life to that of Johnnie Drama’s.

“Fierce… fierce…. Fierce… fierce… Fierce… etc…” - <a href="http://johnniedrama.wordpress.com/2008/08/17/who-really-defines-us-manifestations-of-tensionality/#comment-24" rel="nofollow">Ninja Cook</a>
Ninja uses many MANY examples of fierce conversations. It is apparent she is trying to have a self-presentation of being a “group observer and commentator” (to us a Group Dynamics term). She saturates the comment with examples from both presentations and the word “fierce.” – 8 quotations and 13 uses of “fierce.” She is trying to overtly state that she is observing the fierceness of these presentations in accordance with the presented assignment.

“Memphis brings out examples that contained vocabulary that we learned in this class… Johnniedrama talks about themselves in the third person…” - <a href="http://johnniedrama.wordpress.com/2008/08/17/who-really-defines-us-manifestations-of-tensionality/#comment-25" rel="nofollow">Jimi Garcia 27</a>
Jimi takes two examples (one from each presentation) and connects them to some main idea – this portrays the image of the concise intellectual. By being clear about certain examples, rather than clutter up a comment with 8 examples (eh hem, ninjacook), JG is showing that less is more. The tone of the writing is very calm, but the points that are made are still direct and strong.

“Team three’s project on the consequentiality of emotions…Group One’s project discusses tensionality… I enjoyed NinjaCook’s above comment.” - <a href="http://johnniedrama.wordpress.com/2008/08/17/who-really-defines-us-manifestations-of-tensionality/#comment-26" rel="nofollow">Jaggerbunny</a>
Picks two examples from presentations and a comment to the presentation. Jagger is trying to be the complete IPC package. Jagger is following the advice that Steph has given us since the beginning of the course: The comments are a dialogue, do not just simply post a response, but interweave it into the conversation that is being had above.

“Soccer… soccer…. Soccer… soccer…” - <a href="http://delivermesummer.wordpress.com/2008/08/17/who-really-defines-who-we-are-the-manifestations-of-tensionality/#comment-14" rel="nofollow">Sports08</a>
Sports is very detailed-oriented apparently. He focusses so much so on Johhnie’s quote about soccer. He just grasps one idea and can’t let go of it. Just keeps harping on it to make one specific point, in this case, related to non-influence in the use of the example. Yet he neglects the other handful of examples that were given by and about Johnnie Drama… hmmm…

The theory I will be using to critique my group presentation and comments to my group presentation is the Relevance of good research. https://learning.umassonline.net/webct/urw/lc26190.tp0/cobaltMainFrame.dowebct
When I first read the title of that paragraph I knew that was going to be the section I was going to use. In our group presentation we used well over 36 links which you can look at http://johnniedrama.wordpress.com/2008/08/17/who-really-defines-us-manifestations-of-tensionality/
Steph always stresses that we use a lot of citations while we’re doing our work so you can have plenty of examples to prove what you’re talking about is true. Furthermore, the relevance of good research quotes pylee saying “To write a good research paper we also need a lot of resources,“

Outerbodyboi did his critque on my team member johnnie drama outbody states that johhnie drama. “He starts from the beginning of class and his early work.” http://johnniedrama.wordpress.com/2008/08/17/who-really-defines-us-manifestations-of-tensionality/

Outberboi talks about things johnniedrama wrote about earlier in the class so that meant johhnie drama used a lot of examples from the beginning of clas. This is the only way that outerboi would be able to cite those things that Johnnie talked about in our group presentation. Stpeh wanted us to enough citations so people would be able to track our examples and follow them like a timeline. We asked to do this type of citing since the first day of class. I think when you have enough resources that are reliable information.

Ninjacook says in her reply “This group’s project was very interesting and their analyses of relief, confusion, empathy, and frustration, in terms of John Gottman’s article “Putting Feelings into Words.” Throughout their examples of these emotions the team members showed many examples of real, “fierce” conversations.” Ninjacook was about to understand what the real fierce conversations were like because provided plenty of examples for her.

Beaver,

Welcome to UMass! Did you transfer her from OSU only for basketball, or did you have other reasons? The UMass Varsity experience is pretty good here. Make sure you take advantage of all the resources.
The study hall room is actually one of the best places to study, even when study hall isn't required. I used to be on the rowing team, and I can completely understand how obnoxious it is to have to sit out. I had a problem with my hip and it is FRUSTRATING as all hell to have to watch from the sidelines while everyone else gets a chance. Still, you'll manage and be able to be stronger and faster by the time they let you in a game. Although you can't compete this season, you are still allowed to practice with the team, right? You said that sitting out at OSU made it so that you weren't able to help your team, but I'm sure that you'll find some way to be an integral part of the team and help out in some way. Why did you decide you want to join the Maroon and White? Is it because of the coaching staff, or the atmosphere, or because of the reputation?

Oh, and one other thing...you're in Massachusetts now, where summer can get wicked hot and we have to walk wicked far to class. :)

HI Beaver32!

It seems from your post as though basketball is a big part of your life. It is great to have such passion for a sport or hobby, what is that like for you? Unforunately, I have never been as involved in a sport but I would love to know what it feels like to be on a team united by this one common interest. How did you get involved in this sport?

What made you transfer from Oregan? My first semester at Syracuse I considered transfering, but like most things - it just took some time getting use to it. But per your posting you seem to be having a great time at UMass and the adjustment process is going fast!

Hello Beaver32,

I am glad you like Umass. YES!! It is a big school. Once I had to walk for more than fifteen minutes to get to the class from my dorm. I do not know whether you are going to live in the dorm or not, but I think it is always important to not miss your bus if you are considering it as a way to go to your classroom. I remember myself being late to class several times, because I missed the bus and I had to walk. Once you get used to with using bus schedule, I think it helps to move around campus. Umass has a good public transportation system. I guess Umass is not that hot except September, but it is going to get cold quickly. It is going to be freezing once it starts to snow. Do you like snow? I whish you are since you are going to see lot of them during winter. One time, it snowed at the end of October. The only good thing about snow is that you get some snowdays like when we were in high school. I wish the best luck with upcoming semesters and your new life at Umass.

Welcome to UMass Beaver32!

I am a nontraditional student and in some ways when I go on campus I feel very similar to what you experience. The campus is large, i don't know many people, and I just want to fit in. i guess no matter what your age is we can all have the same insecurities. I have made it into my last semester and you will too.

Hang in there the UMass community is awesome. There is always someone they to help, just ask.

It’s not easy taking on line courses-I’m finding that out real quick! The pace is really “rockin” as Steph says. I try hard to follow directions now-I’ve learned my lesson the hard way and she made a huge emphasis on making sure we followed directions in the first lesson. I’m finally getting the hang of this stuff and feeling like I’m going to make it!
What have you found for fun to do in Amherst in your spare time? Have you made any good connections since you've been here?

Dear Beaver32,

Welcome to the neighborhood! When I first arrived at Umass, it was very overwhelming to me. It was a big adjustment because of the sheer size of the place. At first I felt like there was nobody who really cared for me except myself. In a lot of ways it helped prepare me for the world outside of school. But as I got into the school year, I realized that there were people out there that really did care for me. If you make an effort to seek help, the community of teachers and students is very strong. For me, it was very discouraging my first semester because there weren't a lot of teachers that didn't inspired me. I got a little down on myself and the situation of being at the big school. But as I found teachers that cared and truly interested me, I gained my footings. Now I am very happy to be at the school. It will definitely take some adjusting being so far from home, and being around people that have had such a different experience than you. Th only advice I have for you is to keep an open mind and an open heart. I don't mean to intrude, but what made you want to leave Oregon state? Anyways, I wish you the best in the year(s) to come!
